P R O D U C T S 20 Mold Maintenance & Repair Cleaner Removes Contaminants Without Wiping PCS Co.'s Mold Brite non-chlorinated cleaner/degreaser is formulated to remove contaminants and clean mold surfaces down to virgin metal. Its fast-evaporating chemistry eliminates bleeding into ejector pins and hard-to-reach areas, flushing contaminants from pores without the need for wiping. PCS Co / pcs-company.com EN Plating Protects Molds from Corrosion and Abrasion Engineered electroless nickel plating from Bales Mold Service is designed to protect molds from corrosion and abrasion. EN can be deposited on most tool steels, including beryllium copper and alumi- num, at a controlled thickness ranging from 0.00005" to 0.001". Two of the company's EN-based products, Nicklon and Nibore, offer added lubricity as well, aiding in part release and decreasing cycle time. In most cases, these engineered coatings can eliminate the need for mold release sprays, the company says. EN plating also can indicate when preventative maintenance is re- quired on a mold. According to Bales Mold, when the coating starts to wear and the base material is visible, the mold should be stripped and the plating reapplied. Bales Mold Service / balesmold.com Accessories Ease Dry Ice Cleaning In response to user feedback, Cold Jet had developed a variety of acces- sories for its dry ice cleaning systems designed to improve ergonomics, safety and ease of use. These include a performance applicator, silicone blast hoses, a precision kit and quick-disconnect fittings. The applicator offers dual triggers for drop protection and clearly identified blasting controls. Sealed electrical switches, a tough outer shell and water-release channels protect against moisture, grit and damage. The flexible and lightweight blast hoses are available in 8- and 20-ft. lengths and enable cleaning overhead and at harsh angles. Lightweight MicroClean precision accessories also enable users to blast in hard-to-reach areas. SureFlow quick-disconnect fittings are aero- dynamically designed to ensure full particle flow through the fitting, maintaining particle integrity. Cold Jet also has redesigned its website (coldjet.com) to enable visitors to more easily find solutions and tools tailored to their specific needs. A quarterly newsletter also has been reformatted and updated to focus on industry trends and events. Cold Jet LLC / coldjet.com Compound Purges Plastic in Molding Applications Dyna-Purge D2 purging compound from Shuman Plastics' Dyna-Purge division features a "triple-action" technology designed to thoroughly clean and remove plastic material from the screw and barrel, as well as the tool or die in molding processes. Its scrubbing formulation and wide processing temperature range of 350 to 625°F (177-329°C) are said to make it well-suited for injection, extrusion, compounding and blow molding applications. According to the company, the compound can handle difficult purg- ing applications that some other compounds cannot. An independent study is said to have demonstrated that Dyna-Purge D2 is more ef- fective than mechanical (abrasive) and chemical purging compounds, resulting in faster cleaning and reduced downtime.
